Accessibility

This website was created by zen on behalf of the University of Dundee. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Zen designed and built the website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) international WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards, the minimum requirements to ensure the site and content can be used and understood by the broadest possible audience, including those with disability. The site is accessible to screen readers, keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Drug Discovery Unit, University of Dundee, is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE ACCESSIBILITY REGULATIONS

Some images don’t have a text alternative, so the information in them isn’t available to people using a screen reader. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

Some images are decorative only and are not required to gain necessary information. These do not have alternative text as suggested by the guidelines. We regularly review the website and add alternative text to images where this is missing  and necessary for the user to gain full experience of the website i.e. the image is not just for decoration. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

The Training Academy on-line content section has a number of videos hosted on youtube. These videos all have closed subtitles which can be turned on and off using the settings in youtube. The videos do not yet have transcripts as we are in the process of converting old transcipts to an accessible PDF version. the existing transcripts can be obtained through the video links on this webpage, https://wcair.dundee.ac.uk/training/training-resources/

How we tested this website

This website was last tested on 16/07/2025. The test was carried out by Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research Manager. The website was checked using WAVE (http://wave.webaim.org/). The  web site was also tested with screen reader software Windows Narrator and NVDA. The webiste was checked for the ability to navigate with keyboard only.

We used this approach to deciding on a sample of pages to test. All main section pages were tested. For subsections one or two sample pages were tested when all subsection pages have the same layout. If the layout and format of subsection pages was different within a given section all pages were tested.

We tested:
• our main website platform, available at https://drugdiscovery.dundee.ac.uk/

What we are doing to improve accessibility
